Google Chrome beta - Thoughts and Reviews
Posted on September 3rd, 2008 by admin, under Computers and Internet.
The internet plays an important role in many people’s lives so Google aims to make it a perfect place for the world. With this goal, it is not a surprise that Google developed a browser of its own. Google Chrome beta has been officially released yesterday (September 02, 2008) for the world to use. Although Mac and Linux versions of Chrome are not yet available, Windows users can now enjoy this new browser.

Here’s the video that tells the story about the new Google Chrome Browser:
To switch or not to switch to Google Chrome. That is the big question that is playing many people’s minds. Right after learning about the release of Google Chrome Beta, I immediately downloaded and installed it in my computer to try and test it. I will give my review and thoughts about this new Google browser to help people in deciding on whether to switch to Chrome or not.
There are 10 key features of Chrome which takes browsing into a whole new level. Some features are new but some are already present in browsers like Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. The 10 key features of Google Chrome are:
Easy Import Settings - This is probably the first concern of any person that is considering a switch to Chrome. There are a lot of useful information on your old browser that you will need to transfer to your new browser. Chrome will let you import your bookmarks and settings during or after the browser is installed.

Creation of Application Shortcuts - You can easily create shortcuts to applications like Gmail and You Tube on your desktop, start menu or quick launch bar.
Simpler Download - Downloading files is made simpler in Chrome.
Dynamic Tabs - Browser tabs are one of the most important innovations for browsers. A new feature of Google Chrome is that you can drag a tab to open it to a new window.
Secured Browsing - A warning message will be displayed if you try to browse a web page that is suspected of malware or phishing. Google used to label web pages that is suspected of malware only in search results. Now that Google has its new browser, they’d definitely do that too!
Bookmark Web Pages - Bookmarking and managing your bookmarks are easier in this new browser.

Intelligent Address Bar - When you start typing in Chrome’s address bar, it will not only display your history but also suggest popular sites.
Crash Control - Chrome has a task manager that will let you see the amount of memory used by each tabs and see if there are tabs that are misbehaving.

New Tab Page - Open a tab with one click and see your most visited pages, bookmarks, searches and closed tabs.
Incognito Mode- Good or a Threat?

Incognito Mode is a feature in Google Chrome that cannot be found in other browsers. This mode will let you browse web pages without leaving any trace in your computer like search history and cookies. This a good feature for people who are using public computers like in internet cafes or a shared computer in their house. However, I see this feature as a threat to webmasters who are earning from affiliate programs. Affiliate programs use cookies that only expire after a few months. If internet surfers use the Incognito Mode in Chrome, I am seeing a huge drop in affiliate payouts in the near future.
There you go! I will try using Google Chrome for a few more days and see if there are other things that are worth considering in switching to it.

Stats Summary Report for August 2008
Posted on September 2nd, 2008 by admin, under Make Money Online.
August is considered as a lucky month for most people because it is the eighth month of the year. However, I can say that August is neither a lucky nor a bad month for me. Almost all aspects of my weblog’s statistics have increased by the end of August which was a good thing. I still managed to earn a gross income of $100 per day despite of experiencing a 16% drop in earnings. My earnings have been dropping for the last 2 months and it makes me wonder sometimes if making money through blogging is slowly becoming a history. But then again, as long as I maintain an average of $100 per day, my earnings are not that bad and blogging is still a good way to make a comfortable living.
To start off with my statistics, my Alexa rank increased from 1,449,608 to 1,223,093. The increase in my Alexa rank is not really impressive but I haven’t really done any extensive promotion for my blog so there’s not much to expect. My Technorati rank also had a slight increase from 33,762 to 30,951 in rank and 159 to 165 in Technorati authority. Here are the statistics from the top 3 major search engines:
Google Stats for JoedelSanvictores.com:
Backlinks: 83 (increased from 72)
Indexed Pages: 123 (increased from 104)
Yahoo! Stats for JoedelSanvictores.com:
Backlinks: 14,773 (increased from 9,854)
Indexed Pages: 136 (increased from 97)
MSN Stats for JoedelSanvictores.com:
Backlinks: N/A
Indexed Pages: 245 (increased from 129)
The feed readers of my blog increased from 94 to 132. The increase in my blog’s feed readers is a sign that more people are becoming interested in my posts. I’ve only managed to publish 6 posts in the month of August but all are of high quality. This is a proof that quality is still more important than quantity. Make useful and interesting articles rather a bunch of useless posts and attract more readers.
Last month, I established some plans on how to increase my blog’s statistics and I’m happy to say that I’ve successfully executed the plans. This is most likely the reason for the increase in Alexa and Technorati ranks, backlinks, indexed pages, and feed readers of my blog. I will continue doing them and see how it goes in the long run. I just hope I can find more time to promote and increase the popularity of my blog.

Installation of Wordpress Blogging Script
Posted on August 28th, 2008 by admin, under Blogging.
We finally came down to the actual installation of the wordpress script on our domain name for our weblog. The first thing that we need to do is to configure our wp-config.php file. Here are the steps to do that:
- Extract the downloaded compressed Wordpress script from the official Wordpress website using Winrar.
- Open the wordpress folder; locate the wp-config-sample.php file with the use of a Notepad.
- Take your database details that we created for preinstallation preparations and substitute putyourdbnamehere with your database name, usernamehere with data base user and yourpasswordhere with your data base user password.

- Save and close the wp-config-sample.php and rename it to wp-config.php (remove -sample from the filename).

After doing the steps above, the database configuration for your blog is now ready. The next step is to upload the wordpress files through an FTP program, Filezilla. Connect to your hosting account and upload the contents of the wordpress folder to your domain’s designated folder. If you are uploading for the main domain of your hosting account, upload the files inside the public_html folder for Hostgator hosting account or inside your root folder for GoDaddy hosting account. If you are uploading the wordpress files for an additional domain, upload the files inside the designated folder.
Once all wordpress files have been successfully uploaded, open your domain name on your internet browser (Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer). You will be redirected to yourdomainname.com/wp-admin/install.php. Input your desired blog title (you can change this in your Wordpress settings later) and your email address. Double check to make sure that you are entering the correct email address because you will need this in the future for resetting your password.

Once you click install, we are done installing the wordpress script on your own domain for your weblog. You will be given a random password to log in to your wordpress admin account. I suggest that you change this to a password that you can easily remember once you have logged in. That’s it! I can imagine how hard you thought this was but you’re wrong. ![]()

Download File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Program - Filezilla
Posted on August 25th, 2008 by admin, under Computers and Internet, Downloads.
Before we can actually install the Wordpress Script, we need a program that will allow us to upload files from our computer to our webhost. File Transfer Protocol or FTP will allow you to simultaneously upload all types of files to you hosting account. There are a lot of free FTP programs that you download through the internet for free but I prefer using Filezilla. This is a reliable cross-platform graphical FTP, FTPS and SFTP client that has a lot of features and supports any computer operating system.
You can download the latest version of Filezilla from the official page of SourceForge.net, Filezilla Page. After downloading the setup file, follow these installation procedures:
- Open the setup file and choose your preferred language for installation. Agree to the License Terms and Agreement.
- Choose default values and settings for components and general settings.
- Browse for preferred destination for Filezilla. This is almost always Drive C:\Program Files\Filezilla.
- Click Next and wait for the program to install completely.
Once the program has been successfully installed, open the program. You will now create access from your computer to your webhost so that you can upload and download files to and from it. Open your site manager by Clicking File, the Site Manager or simply Ctrl + S.

Follow these steps to add a new site profile on your Filezilla:
- Click “New Site” then enter a name to distinguish your host or specific website domain.
- If you are adding access to the main domain in your hosting account, just input your domain under the “Host” field.
- Your Logontype should be set to Normal.
- Input the username and password for your hosting account. This is this the same as your username and password if you are adding your main domain name.
- Leave “Don’t save password” check box unchecked so that you can connect to your web host for your next use just by clicking connect.
There you go! You can now easily upload files to your web host or download files from it.
